ABOUT 'SKITTLES'

'Skittles' is a traditional, social, group activity for up to 50 persons at a time. It is a game which can be enjoyed by all ages without the need for great skill or physical ability. Quite simply good fun for all participants and watchers. It greatly pre-dates modern automated forms of bowling (which take much more time, tend to be more regimented and competitive but are generally less social) The game of 'Skittles' is currently enjoying a revival in popularity.

Its origins go way back, probably, to stone age man who threw rocks at wooden sticks stood up in the sand. It is now a little more refined, having purpose built portable alleys and round balls, but not to the extent of becoming regimented or boring. Although popular throughout the country it is probably most popular in the South and South West of England from which comes the particular style of skittle known as the 'Bristol Pin'

One of its best attributes is that the alley can be installed at a venue as close as possible to the intended users, this avoids the need to travel and concerns transporting children or adhering to drink driving laws. It is very flexible, there are many different variations of the game, best score, team score, best hand, wrong hand, skittles left standing, backwards through the knees and what more fun than culminating with a game of 'killer' for a modest sweepstake.

Another good attribute is its 'hands on' nature. Have you ever wished you could get the children out from in front of the computer or television. This is an activity which encourages moderate competition but retains the 'fun element' Imagine two children standing the skittles up, two on the scoreboard and two teams bowling balls through their legs. A formula for guaranteed fun.
